Students can write these codes to the teacher - if they want to tell the teacher something 

• CR = can't remember
• NL = never learned
• NH = need help
• NS = not sure
• NC = need calculator

If the student could work out the answer if they were allowed a calculator - they can write down the sum they would do.

• an independent student won't ask for help
• an independent student won't copy another student
